P5 Lunar module STEM experiment

28th Jan 2026

Primary 5 had an exciting challenge this month: to investigate how to design a lunar module capable of landing an astronaut safely on the Moon!

Pupils explored how to set up a fair test, discussing which variables needed to stay the same and which factors they could change. There were lots of thoughtful conversations and creative ideas about how to prevent a module from breaking apart on impact.

We made predictions about how well the different designs would perform. After testing, we discovered that the most successful landings were achieved by modules with suspension at the base, helping to absorb the impact of landing.

What fantastic scientific thinking and problem‑solving from Primary 5—well done, everyone!
